On late October 2012, Hurricane Sandy swept away the coastal communities of the U.S. mid-Atlantic region. The aftermath of the storm so devastated the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut coastal areas that damages reportedly reached $82 billion, according to The New York Times.
In response to these devastating effects, SAME New York City Post hosted a seminar focusing on recovery topics such as re-building, locating contractors and managing construction projects. The seminar, entitled What now? Sandy Recovery, was held Jan. 19, 2013 at Brielle Town Hall in Brielle, N.J. Previously inadmissible, the Jersey Shore in Brielle is currently lined with abandoned, burned and torn-down houses.
About 50 attended the seminar including two city councilmen. Brielle City Mayor Thomas B. Nicol and SAME Fellow Suzanne DiGeronimo, FAIA, were among those who presented. The event was so well-received that follow up sessions were scheduled. Click here to see the event flyer.
