SAME offers a series of one-week engineering camps designed for high school students interested in pursuing engineering in college. Four camps are typically offered each summer: U.S. Army Camp, U.S. Air Force Academy Camp, U.S. Navy Seabees Camp and U.S. Marine Corps Camp.
On May 6, 2013, Cadet Fourth Class Justin Katzovitz, USAFA, gave feedback regarding his experience as a previous SAME camper in an open letter to SAME Pikes Peak Post Elected Director Capt. Charles D. Comfort, P.E., USAFA. See what Cadet Katzovitz has to say about SAME Camp below:
I have been talking to other SAME camp alumni, and we think that the SAME camp was an extremely valuable part of our decision to come to the Air Force Academy. We are all either committed or considering a major in the engineering department, and we believe that the engineering intro we had during the SAME camp influenced that decision. Also, all of the other campers that we have kept in touch with had their interests peaked by the SAME camp and are now pursuing engineering degrees or ROTC programs at other prestigious colleges.
The opportunity to not only learn engineering but see how it relates to the Air Force and the academy is vital for potential cadets who have a high interest in the Air Force Academy. This camp is very similar to the summer seminar camp but is more beneficial because it gives potential cadets a vision of what they could do in the real Air Force.
