On June 9, 2013, SAME Fort Worth Post participated in the Wounded Warriors Half Marathon and 10K in Irving, Texas. The recreation event was held to support the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) and Fisher House Foundation.
WWP serves military service members who incurred service-connected wounds, injuries, or illnesses on or after September 11, 2001 and their families. Fisher House Foundation provides a “home away from home” for military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury. There are currently 11 Fisher Houses located in Texas with a 12th currently under construction.
Some members of the Post ran the race while others volunteered to assist the water stations. “Our Post had a great time and over 3,000 runners came out to support our Wounded Warriors,” said SAME Fort Worth Post 2nd Vice President Meloni McDaniel, Associate AIA, Beck.
