2013 SAME Rocky Mountain JETS
The 2013 SAME Rocky Mountain Region Joint Engineer Training Symposium (JETS), held July 22–24 in Denver, Colo., had more than 300 attendees and nearly 50 exhibitors.
The symposium offered a wealth of opportunities for attendees to earn Professional Development Hours (PDHs) while learning about the latest trends in sustainability and technology/best practices, while a leadership track focused on the latest cutting edge issues like public-private partnerships, enhanced use leasing and design-build. This year’s event featured a number of Federal Agency Presentations, including from USACE Omaha District, USACE Huntsville Center, Luke AFB, AFCEC, GSA and more. The event also included Leadership Presentations, among them one on Engineers Without Borders and another on NORTHCOM’s response to Hurricane Sandy; Technology & Best Practices Presentations, such as Cyber Infrastructure Security, Lean Construction, and U.S. Air Force Academy Geospatial Education; as well as more than a dozen Sustainability Presentations.
A theme of sustainability was evident throughout the event. A highlight of this year’s Symposium was the presentation of two SAME National Sustainability Awards, for Education & Outreach, and Towards Net Zero—both of which were awarded to Air Force units in the state of Colorado. SAME President Rear Adm. Gary Engle, P.E., DBIA, F.SAME, USN (Ret.), URS Corp., made the awards presentations to the U.S. Air Force Academy (10th Civil Engineer Squadron) for its innovative and outstanding accomplishments in energy conservation, renewable energy, water conservation, and waste reduction in pursuit of Net Zero; and to the Air Force Space Command Energy Team for its outstanding efforts in sustainability through education and outreach, particularly through its development of a comprehensive Energy Roadmap for the command to drive progress in meeting the energy goals of Executive Order 13514.
“The 2013 SAME Rocky Mountain Region JETS received great reviews and we sincerely appreciate everyone’s support,” said Cindy Lincicome, SAME Rocky Mountain Region RVP. “The Planning Committee’s vision was to inform, entertain and provide a networking forum for our membership in a pleasant, comfortable environment. On behalf of the SAME Denver Metro, Frontier, and Pikes Peak Posts, we want to extend a heart-felt thank you to all attendees, sponsors, speakers, volunteers, and well-wishers!”
