Nov. 20- The second day of 2013 SAME Small Business Conference (SBC) was all about business–contracting opportunities, networking and gaining insider tips from industry experts and government leaders. The Opening Plenary Session and the popular Networking Roundtables were among the highlights of the day.
Opening Plenary Session
During the Opening Plenary Session, SAME Executive Director Bob Wolff, Ph.D., P.E., F.SAME, extended a warm welcome to all the attendees and thanked USACE, NAVFAC and AFCE leaders for their support of the conference despite the ongoing government travel restriction. Dr. Wolff gave special thanks and recognition to Lt. Gen. Thomas Bostick, USA, USACE; Maj. Gen. Todd J. Semonite, P.E., USA, U.S. Army Deputy Chief of Engineers and Deputy Commanding General, USACE; and Tracey L. Pinson, Director, Office of Small Business Programs, Secretary of the Army; for going the extra mile in supporting military participation. The conference has an attendee count of over 1,500– a number made possible because of government attendance and support.
Sessions and Briefings
The NAVFAC and U.S. Air Force Plenary Session followed after the Opening Plenary Session. Three business opportunity briefings were held for USACE North Atlantic & South Atlantic Divisions, USACE Mississippi Valley & Great Lakes and Ohio River Divisions and USACE Northwestern & South Pacific Divisions.
In concurrent with the briefings, small business owners filled all slots in three Networking Roundtable sessions featuring government representatives and various large businesses. This interaction enabled them to speak with valuable contacts and ask questions one-on-one. Each table was hosted by representatives from the host organization and five seats at each table were reserved exclusively for small business only. Sign up was on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Networking Reception in Exhibit Hall
After a long, productive day of educational sessions, briefings and networking, the attendees mingled some more and enjoyed Kansas City barbecue at the 2013 SBC Exhibit Hall. The aisles were lined with 215 exhibiting companies showcasing their companies and organizations.
