Recapping the DOD & Federal Agency Program Briefings

A sold-out crowd of nearly 650 attendees braved an unexpected late March snow to once again make the SAME┬áDOD & Federal Agency Program Briefings a rousing success! This year’s event offered eight specialized briefing sessions featuring more than a dozen DOD and Federal Agencies in addition to a Executive Panel in the morning that brought together leaders from headquarters of USACE, NAVFAC, IMCOM and Air Force Civil Engineering. The mission of the day: inform industry of upcoming A/E/C projects for the here and now and also alert attendees of long-term plans to deal with issues such as sequestration and budget challenges while remaining committed to ensuring support to the warfighter and global competitiveness.

Held annually as part of SAME’s March Madness (along with the Fellows Investiture and Golden Eagle Awards Dinner) the DOD & Federal Agency Program Briefings is open exclusively to SAME members. Attendees this year discovered the ins and outs of contracting and project opportunities with the MILCON construction arms of the uniformed services; with USACE’s Civil Works operation and with Environmental Commands of the Army, Navy and Air Force. While DOD’s budget may be down from previous years, there is still a large amount of work from industry needed inside the U.S. and out in support of the national defense. This year’s event also featured insight from the Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Administration. These agencies have large, highly sophisticated programs and are looking to highlight their missions to broaden their reach into the A/E/C industry and engage more firms to compete. The Department of Veterans Affairs, IMCOM, Army & Air Force Exchange Service and USACE R&D Centers also briefed attendees on their ongoing and upcoming A/E/C needs. Next year’s DOD & Federal Agency Briefings will be held in early March, in Northern Virginia just outside the Nation’s Capital. For more upcoming SAME events, including the 2014 Joint Engineer Training Conference & Expo (JETC), visit
