Plan Ahead for PDHs in August!

Share

Mark your calendars as SAME’s Continuing Education Program has two opportunities to earn PDHs from the comfort of your living room during August. The webinars will hit two timely topics: resilience within coastal communities against climate impacts; and public-private and public-public partnerships.

And, coming up next week, SAME in conjunction with the San Antonio Post also will be hosting a non-PDH webinar geared towards helping SAME Post Leaders initiate and implement a Leadership Laboratory, a Young Member mentoring program that the San Antonio Post established in 2011 to great success.

OPERATIONALIZING RESILIENCE

The first PDH webinar coming in August, ”Operationalizing Resilience within Coastal Communities: Updates on USACE Comprehensive Study,” will award 1.5 PDHs and be held Thursday Aug. 14. It is hosted by The Infrastructure Security Partnership (TISP). Over the past decade, the United States has seen an increase in the number of high-magnitude storm events causing massive destruction and an increase in sea level rise. Hurricanes Katrina, Irene and Sandy left expansive areas of death, devastation and an increasing need to build risk reduction infrastructure and resilience among coastline communities. USACE North Atlantic Division joined officials from public and private sectors in a year-long comprehensive study to develop a framework for diminishing coastal storm damage.

In this interactive webinar, attendees will learn approaches to mitigate flood risks in coastal communities; engage in an overview of the business case for resilient and sustainable communities; and hear the highlights of the $19.5 million study before it hits Congress.

The last day to register for this webinar is Aug. 12.

THE FUTURE OF P3s & P4s

On Tuesday Aug. 26, SAME’s Facility Asset Management Committee is hosting a webinar titled “Advancing Installation Asset Management through Public-Private and Public-Public Partnerships” and offering 1.5 PDHs.

  • observations of privatization programs: opportunities, challenges and benefits;
  • the history and process of entering into privatization agreements;
  • how government and industry arrange partnerships that make privatization mutually beneficial;
  • security and infrastructure risks associated with partnering and how to mitigate those;
  • key stakeholders in the privatization process and possible entry points; successful privatization examples; and
  • the future outlook of privatization efforts for the Army.

The last day to register for this webinar is Aug. 22.

LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT

The Leadership Lab is aimed at both up-and-coming leaders and established operational leaders in government and industry.  The “How to Initiate and implement a Leadership Laboratory at Your Post” webinar will detail the process of initiating a leadership lab and explore ways to adapt this experience to other SAME Posts.

Leadership Lab Webinar-Recognizing that not all Posts are created equal, the webinar will explore ways to adjust and bring the benefit of leadership skills development to members across the organization. The last day to register for this event is Aug. 6.
