New NAVFAC Commander, Chief of Civil Engineers named

Pearl Harbor – NAVFAC Pacific Commander Rear Adm. Katherine “Kate” L. Gregory received her new assignment June 18 as the commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) and Chief of Civil Engineer Corps in Washington, D.C.
“I’m extremely honored and humbled,” said Gregory. “I appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve, and work with the Navy workforce on the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
Gregory will pin on her second star prior to her assuming command scheduled for the fall in a ceremony to be held in Washington D.C. A successor for Gregory at NAVFAC Pacific has yet to be named.
“I’m thrilled that Rear Adm. Gregory will be relieving me,” NAVFAC Commander and Chief of Civil Engineer Corps Rear Adm. Christopher Mossey wrote in a message to NAVFAC employees. “She is abundantly qualified, both by vast experience and superb leadership, to lead NAVFAC and the Civil Engineer Corps during these challenging, exciting times.”
Within the Naval Construction Force (Seabees), Gregory has served with Amphibious Construction Battalion One, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) One, as the commanding officer of NMCB 133, commander of the 30th Naval Construction Regiment, and as the chief of staff for the First Naval Construction Division. Gregory’s facilities and project management assignments include tours in Yokosuka, Japan; Naples, Italy; San Francisco, Calif.; Adak, Alaska; and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. She has also had staff tours in Washington, D.C., serving as the Seabee action officer and CNO Overseas Bases planning and action officer.
Gregory assumed command as commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Pacific and the Pacific Fleet Civil Engineer in July, 2010. She is a registered professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia, a qualified military parachutist, and Seabee combat warfare officer.
Rear Admiral Gregory is a native of St. Louis, Mo., and a 1982 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. She holds graduate degrees from the University of Southern California and George Washington University and has completed the Senior Executive Program at the London School of Business.
