Sgt.1st Class McEntire, USA, receives the 2011 Sturgis Medal

On July 10, 2012, SAME Honolulu Post President Col. Greg Gunter, Deputy Division Commander, Pacific Ocean Division, USACE, presented the Sturgis Medal to Sgt. 1st Class Robert E. McEntire, USA.

Sgt. 1st Class McEntire  supported the mission of the 84th Engineer Battalion by thoroughly training soldiers of the 561st Engineer Company. His junior leader development program to train specialists to fill critical positions ensured 100 percent mission accomplishment during a high operational tempo.

Each year, since 1955, SAME presents three Sturgis Medals to an enlisted member of the Army active component, the Army Reserve, and the Army National Guard for outstanding contributions to military troop construction and/or base maintenance by demonstrated technical and leadership ability.

The 2011 Sturgis Medal recipients are Staff Sgt. Connie Cavanaugh, USAR (Reserves), Sgt. Pierre R. Laroussini, ARNG (National Guard) and Sgt. 1st Class Robert E. McEntire, USA (Active). Staff Sgt. Cavanaugh and Sgt. Laroussini received their medals at the 2012 SAME Joint Engineer Training Conference & Expo, which took place May 22-25 in St. Louis Mo. Sgt. 1st Class McEntire could not attend the conference.
