PLW Reception and Awards Presentation

Monday, Aug. 6, 2012- SAME hosted the 2012 Summer Post Leaders Workshop’s (PLW) reception and dinner to welcome Post Leaders coming from all parts of the country in Alexandria, Va. Each year, SAME offers two PLW workshops to provide Post Leaders an opportunity to meet, share ideas and work with Young Members as well as the National Leadership to achieve SAME goals.

SAME Executive Director Robert D. Wolff, Ph.D., P.E., F.SAME, introduced SAME President Anthony F. “Tony” Leketa, P.E., F.SAME, SES (Ret.). Leketa commended the growth in SAME membership and the progress of the Society’s goals and objectives in support of military readiness and national defense. He reminded the attendees that now, more than ever, is a great time to be a part of SAME. He also encouraged the Post Leaders to continue with their efforts to pursue professional and technical competence with ardor but not without caution. “Don’t count your eggs before they hatch,” he advised.

The reception and dinner included an awards presentation for two SAME HQ staff members: Diana Dawkins, Director, Member and Post Support; and Natasha Rocheleau, Individual Member & Database Manager. Dr. Wolff presented a certificate of recognition to Diana Dawkins for five years of outstanding service and to Natasha Rocheleau for 15 years of commitment and contribution to SAME.

Dr. Wolff was, in turn, recognized for 10 years of exemplary leadership as SAME Executive Director. SAME HQ Directors Eileen Erickson, Diana Dawkins and Kathleen Wilson presented Dr. Wolff with an award and a cake to celebrate his service to the Society. The staff also gave Dr. Wolff a jacket decorated with SAME insignia and monogrammed with his name and title as Executive Director. Moreover, Dr. Wolff’s wife, Phyllis was recognized by staff for her dedication to- and participation in- SAME.

Overall, the Reception and Awards Presentation served as a celebratory start to the two-day 2012 Summer PLW. The event features presentations, technical sessions and networking opportunities. “The PLW gives the HQ staff the opportunity to inform Post Leaders of the direction in which SAME is headed. It’s also a great venue to meet with SAME HQ staff who can provide them with the necessary tools and resources to help them succeed in their Posts,” said Diana Dawkins, Director, Member and Post Support.
